This Media Theatre presents two films about nations attempting to rid themselves of indigenous peoples in their desire for land and compliance.
Rabbit Proof Fence depicts the story of Australian girls torn from their families and placed in an abusive orphanage who resolve to make the 1500 mile trek home.
Beyond the Shadows is a rarely seen Canadian documentary about taking children out of their homes and placing them in boarding schools far from their reservations and the resulting transgenerational grief. The films are followed by a discussion of the effects of these acts on these populations.
