In child and adolescent psychiatry, failure is a rarely discussed topic. Although we discuss strategies for dealing with resistance and approaches to treatment-resistant cases, we rarely discuss those cases that do not respond to any of our treatments. Often such cases are not considered treatment failures, but are attributed to patient non-compliance, or to parental failure to participate in or support treatment. This Workshop is designed to help clinicians think about, recognize, understand, and learn from impasses and failures in their clinical work.
