The practice of psychiatry has become perilous because of the threat of being brought into the legal system. During this Member Services Forum a panel of professional malpractice claims and legal personnel, with nearly a century of experience, are brought together. From an open dialogue with participants, specific cases and circumstances of interest are discussed and concrete suggestions are made. Special emphasis is given to the application of informed consent principles to help bring about control of the chance of being drawn into unwanted litigation.
