Recent data suggests that over 20% of psychiatric malpractice claims involve the care of minors. The modest evidence-base supporting the diagnosis and treatment of minors and the growing use of pharmacotherapy especially in very young children and children in foster placement presents special dilemmas for the child psychiatrist who must weigh the risk of treatment as well as the risk of non-treatment. This Workshop details the emerging risks and liabilities in the practice of child and adolescent psychiatry.
