In “the real world” of child psychiatric practice children and adolescents with anxiety disorders often present with moderate to severe symptoms and commonly comorbid disorders such as ADHD, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, depression, substance abuse, and learning disabilities. These factors complicate evaluation and treatment and need to be considered carefully in differential diagnosis and treatment planning. This Workshop reviews clinical modifications of exposure-based cognitive behavioral therapy for the individual anxiety disorders, medication treatment of anxiety disorders and comorbid disorders, and family and school interventions for childhood anxiety disorders. Attendees receive clinical guidance on how to successfully integrate these interventions in youths with anxiety disorders in “real world” clinical practice.
