This Media Theatre provides an opportunity for participants to observe and take part in a live broadcast of “About Our Kids,” a two-hour weekly radio program aired nationally on the Sirius Radio Network. This program has been running since February of 2008 and was created to give listeners easy access to essential information and advice about child, teen, and family mental health. The first two hours of the Media Theatre are devoted to taping the weekly broadcast itself, and the regular hosts of “About Our Kids” interview key AACAP representatives. The final hour is devoted to a discussion of the importance and potential uses of media in mental health. By participating in this Media Theatre, participants witness the value and utility of radio as one approach to increasing public knowledge and effectively employing media to promote child and adolescent mental health.
