This Workshop reviews existing diagnostic frameworks and practice guidelines for fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), provides a review of the neuropsychologic deficits and mental health comorbidities found in individuals with FASD, narrows the discussion to provide detailed information about attachment disorders as a comorbidity in many children with FASD, and reviews existing treatment strategies and support approaches for this population. This Workshop employs didactic teaching for core information, dialogue with Workshop participants, and the use of interactive case-based discussions highlighting different and challenging aspects of diagnosis and treatment of individuals with FASD. The diagnosis and intervention planning needs for children with both FASDs and attachment disorders is a challenge, and requires collaboration between clinicians with expertise in both fields of practice.
