This Workshop begins with a brief overview of the varied needs of an autistic spectrum child and proceeds to provide information on how to assist parents in seeking services for their autistic child. Information is given on the various service providers including community, school-based, and private sector settings, and types of treatment, such as behavior management, speech/language functioning, motor skills, individual and family psychotherapy, and medication management. Participants gain an understanding of the role of the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act and federal investigations related to civil rights violations, what a consent decree is, and how to seek out services and, when possible, funding for these services.
