Child and adolescent psychiatrists and psychologists are in short supply. The vast majority of mental healthcare for youth is provided by primary care practitioners and therapists not formally trained to work with children. In addition, there remains a dearth of accurate and accessible information readily available to the public about child, adolescent, and family mental health. Child and adolescent psychiatrists have rarely addressed the media directly and proactively, choosing instead to react only occasionally when called upon. This Media Theatre provides an opportunity for participants to observe and take part in a broadcast of
About Our Kids, a two-hour weekly radio program aired nationally on the Sirius/XM Radio Network.
About Our Kids was created in order to provide listeners with easy access to essential information and advice on child, teen, and family mental health. By participating in this Media Theatre, participants witness the value and utility of radio as one approach to increasing public knowledge and effectively employing media to promote child and adolescent mental health.
