Managed care, Medicaid, Medicare, and indemnity insurance rely on Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) 2010 for billing and reimbursement. This presentation addresses the challenge of applying the current CPT system of coding to children, adolescents, and their families. Following an overview of the CPT Manual and developmental history of this process, faculty present material from the recently updated AACAP CPT module. The program includes an overview of the CPT coding and Medicare payment systems, fraud and abuse rules, evaluation and management codes, psychiatry codes, and selected non-psychiatry codes. To facilitate discussion, faculty present clinical case vignettes as vehicles to describe coding options with their respective merits and drawbacks. Participants are encouraged to ask questions about how to code services they provide in their own practices.
