Child and adolescent psychiatrists are increasingly involved in leadership positions, often with little or no formal training. This is the third workshop devoted to the development of clinical leadership skills for child and adolescent psychiatrists. This Workshop assists clinical leaders in evaluating their successes, identifying areas in need of improvement within their organizations, and developing self-assessment skills. Participants learn to use performance improvement systems to evaluate and advance effective medical leadership. Key skills in communication, such as team building and negotiation, are addressed in structured, small group interaction. Participants are encouraged to describe their own leadership situations and to be candid in discussing their challenges. The goal is for individuals to map out a plan for further leadership and program development.
