Katherine A. Halmi, M.D. completed her medical training, pediatric and psychiatric residencies at the University of Iowa Medical College. She began her eating disorder clinical and research career while on the faculty in the department of psychiatry at the University of Iowa and moved to establish a clinical and research eating disorder program at the New York Hospital - Westchester Division associated with Cornell University Medical College in 1979. She is currently a Professor of Psychiatry and DeWitt Wallace Senior Scholar at Weill Cornell Medical College. For the past 35 years Dr. Halmi has investigated eating disorders with a broad perspective, including neuroendocrine studies, cognitive behavioral and pharmacological treatment studies, metabolic and genetic studies, investigations of comorbid psychopathology, studies of core eating disorder psychopathology, and longitudinal follow-up studies. She is currently conducting a multicenter family therapy study for the treatment of adolescent anorexia nervosa.
