Swan Lake is the story of the coming of age of a prince and the tasks he must face to complete the transition from childhood to adulthood. This Media Theatre begins with a review of Tchaikovsky’s
Swan Lake as contrasted with Matthew Bourne’s more recent adaptation. Discussion focuses on the developmental perspective of the ballet over time and the issues of aggression in both Tchaikovsky and Bourne’s interpretations, especially as they relate to aggression and bullying in our society and adolescent sexual identify and suicide. Come and become aware of how the psychological perspective on issues facing adolescents evolve over time in art and music; how art reflects issues confronting society; and how new and innovative methods in art evoke psychological issues.
