Advances in Treatment: Implications for Clinical Practice

There is increased attention being given to the use of psychotropic medication in the treatment of children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders. As a result, staying abreast of the latest developments and research findings are important skills for the child and adolescent psychiatrist to possess. This Institute presents the latest research findings with regard to efficacy and safety of medication use in the treatment of a number of childhood disorders, including bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders. In addition, medicolegal issues related to the use of psychotropic medication in the treatment of children and adolescents are discussed.
