The transition from high school to college is a landmark event for many young people and their families. For college-bound youth with pre-existing mental health issues, the transition presents particular challenges. They are at high risk for exacerbation of symptoms, relapse, academic and social difficulties, and suicide. Presenters describe cases where the transition was not optimal or failed and explore why this happened. Participants learn about strategies to promote safe and effective transitions for their college bound patients, potential barriers to successful transition, and what makes a well-rounded transition plan.
