Things Behind the Sun: A Cinematographic Representation of the Impact of Family Secrets on a Latency Age Girl

What is privacy and what is secrecy? Is keeping or revealing a secret the best thing to do? This film is the story of a 10-year-old girl, Didush, whose family has a “secret” that everyone knows about, except her. While her family wants to protect her, she ends up being excluded and ultimately keeping secrets of her own. The story of loneliness in the midst of a large family is artfully presented. Come discuss the role of family secrets and their destructive potential for latency age children, as well as young adults and the entire family system; and explore the distinction between privacy versus secrecy.
