The objective of this year’s Clinical Practicum is to learn about the key elements of a comprehensive pediatric telepsychiatry program by visiting the TeleLink Mental Health Program at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. This Program has been delivering specialist child psychiatric services via live interactive videoconference to remote, rural, and Aboriginal communities across the Province of Ontario, Canada since 2000. This is a comprehensive program with a focus on building capacity via direct and indirect clinical consultations, and continuing professional development. Aligned with the strategic directions of the Hospital and, as an academic program within the University of Toronto, evaluation, research, and training of medical students and psychiatry residents comprise integral components of the program.

The Clinical Practicum consists of an overview of all the elements of the program, including administration, technology, funding, medico-legal considerations, clinical consultations, program consultations, continuing professional development, involvement of medical trainees, quality assurance metrics, evaluation, and research. Each afternoon breakout session presents a live demonstration of one of the key components of the program. This is done in real time with very active attendee participation.
