Dr. Hechtman is a professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She has been involved in groundbreaking research in the area of ADHD. Her early research involved long-term, controlled, prospective follow-up studies of children with ADHD into adolescents and adulthood. This work documented that ADHD continued into adulthood in 50-60% of cases. Dr. Hechtman then embarked on a number of multi-site, multimodal treatment studies of children with ADHD. The best known is the Multimodal Treatment for ADHD Study. This National Institute of Mental Health and National Institute on Drug Abuse funded study is ongoing; currently in the follow-up phase. She focuses on what is known about long-term outcomes in ADHD; what factors influence positive versus negative outcomes; what multimodal treatment studies have added to the understanding and treatment of ADHD; and future clinical directs. Cases and questions from attendees are welcome.
