Integrated Module-Based Family Therapy (IMBFT) is a family-based assessment and treatment model designed specifically for use in child and adolescent psychiatric practice, and provides a useful framework for training child and adolescent psychiatry residents and fellows. IMBFT uses ten critical domains for assessment and intervention: biological/psychiatric; attachment; family structure; communication; developmental needs; affect regulation; behavior regulation; cognitive/narrative; mastery; and community (culture, religion, gender, and sexual orientation). An assessment temple is provided and discussed. Participants learn to use and apply the IMBFT model within their practice and training, and are able to incorporate evidence-based family therapy techniques with best practice approaches in family therapy.
