Prayers for Bobby was produced in 2008 and is an acclaimed Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated drama about Bobby Griffith and his close knit, loving family. It explores his internal struggle to come to grips with his homosexuality and his family’s determination to heal him through the Bible. His suicide caused his mother to examine her conservative fundamentalism and, ultimately, to renounce her homophobia. This film stimulates discussion of spiritual and religious issues affecting gay and lesbian youth from a psychiatric perspective.
