The system of care approach is individualized, strengths-based, and family-focused, and it is more likely to produce positive outcomes for children with complex needs than traditional approaches. The potential roles for child and adolescent psychiatrists within systems of care are explored, including serving as diagnosticians, consultants, treatment providers, and advocates. Participants learn the core principles of systems of care; are able to identify at least three positive changes in systems of care since its inception; and understand the importance of individualized and strengths-based treatment planning.
