Residential Treatment for Children and Adolescents Dually Diagnosed with Mental Health Disorders and Intellectual and Developmental Delays
Many experts agree that the combination of early intervention and a meaningful, natural support system provides the best possible outcomes for dually diagnosed children and adolescents. The presenters discuss their development of a self-contained program for dually diagnosed youth at three different Devereux residential treatment centers, which integrate traditional mental health assessment and therapy with applied behavior analysis evaluation and therapy. Workshop participants are provided a model for evaluation and treatment of dually diagnosed children and adolescents who are admitted to a residential treatment center, including assessment tools and a training model for residential treatment milieu staff and caretakers working with these youth.
