Workshop 20 (ticket)
Assessment and Treatment of Challenging Behavior in Neurodevelopmental Disorders: The Maudsley Model
The term challenging behavior is used to describe severe noncompliant behavior, and verbal and physical aggression directed at self and/or others. This workshop presents a systematic approach to the assessment of challenging behavior, including: assessing psychiatric comorbidities in children with substantial communication impairment; identifying causes of functional impairment; physical causes of challenging behavior; environment triggers and reinforcers; and assessing risk. On the treatment of these disorders, evidence-based approaches and management are discussed, including: prioritizing symptoms and intervention modalities; setting and monitoring goals; and managing risk. Attendees strengthen their understanding of evidence-based interventions.
