Workshop 43 (ticket)
Traumatic Brain Injury: Psychiatric and Educational Diagnosis and Management
Psychiatric disorders that occur after a child or adolescent has a traumatic brain injury (TBI) pose major challenges to community re-entry and quality of life. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act mandates educators provide services to children with TBI. This Workshop presents research findings related to pediatric TBI and psychiatric disorders and symptoms; pharmacological, psychotherapeutic, and systems treatment for TBI; and cases of children and adolescents with varied complications of TBI, with a focus on case management. Attendees increase their knowledge of TBI in children and adolescents; they are then introduced to models of collaboration between psychiatrists and education specialists to enhance school reintegration and school function.
