CPT Update: Coding and Documentation Strategies

This Member Services Forum discusses the effective use of the CPT manual and provides current information regarding the structural changes and codes for psychiatric procedures. Correct coding diminishes fraud and abuse claims and allows child and adolescent psychiatrists to be appropriately reimbursed for their services. The new coding structure requires psychiatrists to use Evaluation and Management (E/M) codes for medical services, employs a series of add-on codes for psychotherapy services, and has additional codes developed for Diagnostic Evaluations with Medical Services and Crisis Services. Gain a firm understanding of the new coding system to effectively code for reimbursement and advocate for patients with third party payors.
