Disaster Psychiatry: Beyond Acute Interventions

The child and adolescent psychiatrist who wishes to know more about disaster trauma and disaster services, or who may participate in disaster preparedness, response, or treatment, benefits from this informative Workshop. Topics covered include types and phases of disaster and systems of disaster response; evaluation, intervention, and treatment of children and families at different phases post-disaster; preventive interventions to manage post-traumatic stress; opportunities to get involved with communities and receive training before disasters occur; and ethical and legal consideration and guidelines for public communication. Interactive disaster vignettes illustrate key points and guide the participants through developing strategies to solve the problems presented.
