Clinical Case Conference 6 (open)
Global Ethical Issues in the Clinical Setting: Visas Not Required!
This CCC highlights and discusses ethical principles and issues that occur in clinical settings when working with children, adolescents, and families from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Global mobility, technology, and increased migration have diversified our populations, making it imperative for child and adolescent psychiatrists to be well versed in working with children and families of diverse origins. Ethical issues can be complex and entangled with political, cultural, and economic dynamics and values. After discussion of the universality of core ethical principles, presenters discuss a variety of culture- and region-specific perspectives with regard to confidentiality, autonomy, beneficence, and other ethical scenarios. Ethical perspectives and nuances from North American, South East Asian, European, Central American, and African are presented.
