Black Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Caucus

The caucus is an informal group designed to address some of the unique needs of Black child and adolescent psychiatrists and patients. Some of the areas that are addressed include mentorship, career development for residents, fellows, and early career psychiatrists. In addition, some of the crises that are present in the Black community at a disproportionate rate including HIV and AIDS, involvement in the juvenile justice and foster care systems and the increasing suicide rate among adolescent Black males are discussed. The goal is to create an action plan for collectively addressing these and other areas through education, advocacy, and a grass roots call to action. There will be an opportunity for sharing small posters of works in progress as well as for collaboration in developing research ideas. While the focus of the caucus group is on issues related to the Black community, we appreciate that there are many child and adolescent psychiatrists who have an interest in and a passion for these issues.
