This CCB provides the opportunity to discuss approaches to and challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), which became a formal diagnosis with the publication of DSM-5. ARFID interferes significantly with growth and development, leading to malnutrition, pubertal delay, and loss of growth velocity, among other medical complications. Examining clinically challenging cases facilitates the clinician’s ability to effectively evaluate and treat patients with ARFID, increases awareness of individual and family-based approaches to treatment, and introduces ways to collaborate with different medical specialties in coordinating care.
