Workshop 16 (ticket)
Creating a Coercion-Free Treatment Environment

Providing a coercion-free treatment environment for youth with frequent and severe agitation and aggression is extremely challenging. A coercion-free environment is necessary to reduce the use of seclusion, restraint, and chemical restraints; interventions with potentially fatal consequences. This Workshop introduces a training program developed to facilitate the creation of a coercion-free environment. Participants learn to create, test, and revise hypotheses regarding when an individual is most likely to become agitated and what interventions are most likely to be effective at de-escalation.
