Deaf and hard of hearing youngsters suffer with many of the same psychiatric illnesses as their hearing counterparts; however, the access to health care services is often extremely limited due to language and cultural barriers. In order to provide optimal mental health care services to deaf and hard of hearing youngsters, child and adolescent psychiatrists need to be informed about the unique needs of this population. Attendees learn about the mental health needs of deaf youth and how to provide practical guidelines on optimal service delivery appropriate to meet the needs of this population.
