The ABCs of ABA and Related Techniques for Autism Intervention: Demonstration and Didactics

Intervention for children with autism and related disorders is intense and can be costly, and finding appropriate interventions for each child is key to providing the best chance for optimal development. Some of the most common and proven interventions are those based on applied behavior analysis (ABA), relational skills, and communication skills. When professionals have well founded knowledge of why these interventions work, when they are most effective, and how they are applied in “real life”, their abilities to be consultants and advocates are enhanced. This Workshop provides child and adolescent psychiatrists and related professionals with directly applicable information and demonstrations regarding ABA and other interventions, such as floor time, speech therapy, and augmented communication and speech-generated devices, so that they can enhance their confidence in referrals, consultation, and advocacy.
