This Media Theatre works to increase awareness of the challenges faced by child psychiatrists, particularly at early stages, in career development, and of the importance of mentoring in meeting these challenges. In addition, this program increases awareness of web-based free resources that provide information about mentoring while discussing specific hurdles that mentors can assist mentees in overcoming. Data is looked at from a survey conducted among 112 psychiatrists in 2008 exploring influences, including mentoring and gender, on career choices. Interviews are reviewed with prominent child and adolescent psychiatry clinicians and researchers. This session also specifically discusses how women and child psychiatrists pursuing academic and research careers can benefit from mentorship.
