The United States faces a rapidly changing demographic and cultural landscape. Over 20% of American children are children of immigrants, constituting the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population. The mental health of this growing population of children should be an increasing area of focus nationally, given their significance to the future of the U.S. The goal of this Workshop is to focus on the study of research findings relevant to serving the mental health needs of Latino immigrant children in America. Child and adolescent psychiatrists need to understand recent developments in the clinical understanding of immigrant children in America, to be able to properly serve this vast and rapidly-expanding segment of the U.S. population.
