Child and adolescent psychiatrists are faced with increasing pressure to diagnose, consult on, and recommend treatment for substance abuse and addiction in adolescents. This SIG helps practitioners understand local, state, and federal initiatives and discusses information on screening, brief intervention, referral to treatment, specific evidence-based treatment, co-occurring disorders, systems of care, the role of peer support and self-help, model treatment programs, and more. Participants have the opportunity to share their experience and discuss what practices are most practical and cost-effective.
