Over the past decade, there has been a movement to increase the use of evidence-based treatment in child and adolescent psychiatry training programs. Most of these efforts have focused on treatment and have neglected assessment. There is a need for evidence-based assessment (EBA) as well, because it increases reliability and prevents missing diagnoses due to clinician bias. Participants learn the benefits and drawbacks of EBA; are introduced to a model curriculum in a training clinic, including instruments used and the effective training in the use of those instruments; and explore the obstacles to implementing EBA and their solutions. Through video interviews and case presentation, participants have the opportunity to discuss the benefits of the diagnostic interview in training, as well as complete an assessment of their program and the obstacles to implementing EBA in their setting.
