Autism Spectrum Disorders: Research and Treatment Review for Clinicians

Those providing treatment and care for individuals with autism spectrum disorders need practical answers to clinical care questions; and clinicians who may be able to recognize diagnostic symptoms of autism are not always certain about how to proceed with the diagnostic evaluation and development of a treatment plan. This Institute reviews the advances in research, behavioral/educational interventions, and pharmacological interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders. Participants learn about developing a realistic plan to help the patient achieve optimum function and life skills. It also provides the practicing child and adolescent psychiatrist, pediatrician, family practitioner, and other mental health professionals with fundamental information on how to help parents immediately after their child is diagnosed or suspected to have an autism spectrum disorder. Information about consideration of educational and residential planning as the child matures into adulthood is discussed. Come learn about the significant implications of early intervention and how to maximize potential for adaptive function in children with autism spectrum disorders.
