Traditionally, residents have been taught psychotherapy through discussion of process notes. With the increased availability and affordability of user-friendly audiovisual equipment, videotaping patient sessions to review with their supervisors is also being used to teach psychotherapy. This Workshop compares and contrasts the two teaching methods in order to create a better understanding of the pros and cons of each method of supervising residents. Particular aspects of supervisor and trainee that may affect the supervision choice are discussed. Supervisors gain understanding of both approaches.
