Therapeutic Assessment (TA) is a new evidence-based approach to the assessment of teens presenting with suicide attempts or non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) developed in order to include a therapeutic component in the assessment process. Participants gain up-to-date knowledge of the etiology and epidemiology of adolescent suicide attempts and NSSI. Factors that impact on engagement in follow-up and treatment are reviewed and the concept of TA introduced. Participants leave with the knowledge to construct a TA diagram in the assessment setting; which is the foundation from which the different “exits” are derived. How “exits” are created together with the adolescent is introduced, including the range of evidence-based psychological interventions that may be used.
