Diagnosis of Munchausen by Proxy (MBP) in a child can be extremely difficult. Falsification can include exaggeration, fabrication, simulation, and/or induction of physical or psychiatric illness by another. An objective clinical evaluation requires reliance on direct observations, collateral information, and closely monitored medical tests. Participants gain knowledge about the psychopathology of those who falsify illness in others; learn about available treatment options; become aware of current controversies in the field; and may discuss and obtain consultation about their own difficult cases.
