American child and adolescent psychiatrists are treating an increasing number of non-European ethnically, racially, and culturally diverse children and youth. This Workshop gives child and adolescent psychiatrists intensive training on culturally informed practices with diverse ethic/racial populations of children and their families. Participants learn to recognize cultural stereotypes and cognitive shortcuts that may interfere in the assessment and treatment of diverse children and youth; understand cultural issues in their diagnostic assessment of children and youth; use cultural formulations to inform their understanding of diverse patients and their treatment needs; and implement basic adaptations to therapeutic approaches to improve the effectiveness of treatment.
