Women entering the field of child and adolescent psychiatry at a time when they may also be starting families require special mentoring in order to make the most practical and fulfilling career choices. The objective of this Special Interest Study Group is to provide an opportunity for female child and adolescent psychiatry residents and early career psychiatrists to gain exposure to leaders from the field and to develop a mentor network to provide career guidance. Major challenges and considerations of a research-oriented career pathway, private or community practice pathway, and academic pathway are discussed, with considerations given to personal satisfaction, income, child care responsibilities, and job availability, among others.
