This Workshop provides a legal and historical background for the issues concerning juvenile competency to stand trial. Practical aspects of performing assessments for juvenile competency are addressed. Methods for documentation and testimony regarding competency to stand trial are outlined. The review of a case example is used to reinforce learning. Legal and clinical implications for the future of the evaluation of juvenile competency to stand trial are discussed. Participants increase their proficiency in conducting evaluation of juvenile competency to stand trial and better understand the complexities involved in the integration between child and adolescent psychiatry and the juvenile justice system.
