Trainees get little practical training in private practice or business management. This Workshop is designed to help fill that knowledge gap and create a framework to assist the fledgling child and adolescent psychiatrist in opening their own private practice. Drawing on 35 years of experience, with several forms of private practice, the presenter guides the participants through the process, the timeline, and the decisions that need to be made. Specific steps involved in the process are covered; electronic medical records are discussed; and variability in the process, especially for women, people of color, or diverse cultural backgrounds is covered.
