Workshop 12 (sold out)
Understanding Public School Law: The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and the School System

A significant number of child and adolescent psychiatry patients carry special needs in the school setting. Their access to appropriate services is guided by public school law. In this Workshop, participants gain knowledge of the evolution of public school law and are able to compare and contrast regular education law, special education law, civil rights law, and disability law. An increased understanding of the legal framework, and the related challenges faced by teachers and school administrators, enhances the child and adolescent psychiatrist's ability to constructively collaborate with school officials and effectively advocate for the needs of their patients.
