College Mental Health Administrative Leadership: The Role of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists
Better identification and treatment of mental illness has resulted in an increase in students with treated illnesses attending college. With their knowledge of psychiatric disorders and developmental risks associated with illness in the college age group, child and adolescent psychiatrists are uniquely qualified to understand the clinical needs on a college campus and to play a leadership role in college mental health services (CMHS). Participants learn about career opportunities and challenges of working with CMHS, how to foster multidisciplinary collaboration to improve the quality of treatment, and how study groups can enhance evidence-based treatment. The complexities of privacy laws and improving collaboration with university and medical center leaders are discussed.
