When Mental Illness Hits Home: The Dual Role of Being a Clinician and Family Member
Child and adolescent psychiatrists face many challenges, and opportunities, when discussing a family member with a mental illness in their clinical, administrative, professional, or advocacy work. This SIG reviews the literature regarding stigma and professional attitudes towards persons with mental illnesses, recovery, and advocacy. It also provides an opportunity for child and adolescent psychiatrists to discuss these issues in an open, frank forum with peers who have experienced such stigma as a family member.
