The Power of Forgiveness: Coping with Violence and Trauma, Implications for Research and Clinical Practice
In the documentary The Power of Forgiveness, the director and producer present compelling situations in which victims of violence, and perceived victims of others wrongdoing, confront adversity. The film presents several events, including the conflict in Northern Ireland, the events and aftermath of ground zero, the Pennsylvania Amish community shootings, and the assassination of a young Muslim college male by a14-year-old Christian in California. This session defines forgiveness, reviews pertinent literature on forgiveness and describes the relevance of forgiveness in clinical practice, introduces the concept of Restorative Justice, and discusses the possible benefits and pitfalls of utilizing the concept in clinical settings.
