Sexy Baby: Growing Up in the Cyber Age

With new forms of media growing ever more sophisticated and exposure to media continuing to increase, the positive and negative influences on adolescent development cannot be ignored. Through viewing the movie Sexy Baby and subsequent panel discussion, this Media Theatre increases awareness of new media pressures on adolescent female development, e.g., body image, identity, behavior, sexuality, discusses how clinicians and educators can open a dialogue with patients to assess these pressures, and draws attention to the need for research and education on the impact of new media and its effects on child and adolescent mental health. The images, readily available on TV, Internet, etc., but concentrated in this film, may be too intense for some viewers.
