Language Development and Disorders in Bilingual (Dual Language) Children
Child and adolescent psychiatrists often have limited or no training in language development/language disorders. This training gap is particularly acute when it comes to understanding normal/abnormal language development of bilingual/dual language children. Language development is even more relevant to emotional/behavioral regulation, school functioning, and clinical diagnosis in bilingual children. This SIG addresses these issues and allows participants to present clinical and developmental questions or treatment ideas, as well as relating the ongoing research that engages neurodevelopmental, contextual, and individual factors.
